Sailor Stars Asaka Live Event Guide

Anza & Morino sing 'Moonlight Densetsu'

Sometime in 1996, the myu cast made an appearance at a place called Asaka for an event meant to promote the Winter 1996 musical, Sailor Stars (Kaiteiban). Ooyama Anza (Moon), Morino Ayako (Mercury), Katayama Sayuri (Seiya), Ono Hikari (Taiki), Okuyama Momoko (Yaten), and Saitou Rei (Pluto) appeared at this event. (Kasahara Ryuuji's voice is also heard doing the "It's showtime" intro to "Usagi Circus Show Time" to introduce Anza & Morino).

Sadly, this event was never officially released on video, but some fan filmed it and a YouTube user named Texmexium uploaded it to YouTube (in fact, seeing as Texmexium lists his/her location as Japan, he/she might've filmed these him/herself!).

Basically, the event consists of some songs and some audience-cast interaction, not unlike the fankans that would follow. Anza & Morino come out first and perform "Moonlight Densetsu," the anime theme song. Then they introduce themselves and talk for a bit (I'm not sure what they said as the video wasn't subbed). Then the two of them perform "Tabidachi." Since when this song debuted in the second musical they were still lip-syncing the songs (I think), this could be one of the first times it was performed live, which is pretty cool!

The Three Lights sing 'Chasin' After You'

After this, Anza introduces the Three Lights, who come on and sing "Chasin' After You." Then they talk for a while, and then Anza and Morino return and Anza messes around with them, making them march in place across the stage and stuff. Also, Sayuri tries to start an impromptu performance of "See Me, Boku-tachi no Jidai" but Anza stops him. Sayuri-tachi just go with it, too, which is quite hilarious.

After all the silliness, Morino introduces "Knockin' Down Hesitation," Usagi's song with the Three Lights. The most interesting thing about this is that the version sung here is not the version sung in Sailor Stars (the summer musical), but the EXTENDED version that debuted officially on video with Sailor Stars (Kaiteiban)! Since Sailor Stars (Kaiteiban) didn't hit the stage till December 1996, this is probably the first ever performance of this version! If so, that is a rare treat indeed.

Saitou Rei sings 'Stay Alone'

After the Usagi/Three Lights song, Saitou Rei is introduced. She comes out and sings "Stay Alone." Now, this is the version from First Stage, which is shorter and has different lyrics than the version from 1998's Shin Densetsu Kourin. I'm not sure which I like better; the lyrics and singing are great on both. Nonetheless, Rei-san sings the song really well here. After the song, she introduces herself and talks for a long time in a sort of rambling fashion (maybe because she's nervous?). She also starts to sing some song (which I don't recognize, unfortunately) but is interrupted by the others. Anza calls Rei-san "obaa-san" ("auntie," more or less; I think it can mean "grandma" too) very loudly, which is received with some grace by Rei-san. Then Sayuri starts trying to flirt with Rei-san (I think) but doesn't get far. The group talks some more, and Anza almost gives away some secret info, as indicated by the fact that she starts to say something but Morino shushes her and they say to each other "Hi-mi-tsu" (secret).

Hikari-san asks about Taiki's senshi form

The more audience-interaction part of the event begins with the present cast asking the audience members trivia questions about their respective characters, with those who answer correctly getting prizes (a toy of one of Moon's wands, I think, by the looks of them). Apparently, they have a smart crowd there because it seems like no one gets any questions wrong. (You never hear "chigau" ["wrong"] as a response from the cast to the answers, only "omedetou" [congratulations]). It's hard to make out what the questions are, though Momoko's is about Star Healer's attack (I think) and Hikari's is about what senshi Taiki transforms into.

The group pose at the end of 'La Soldier'

After the trivia bit, Anza (who had disappeared after her question) is heard backstage yelling "Moon Eternal, Make Up!" Then she comes out as Eternal Sailor Moon (I think she was Super Sailor Moon before, though she might've been just regular Sailor Moon, considering that Sailor Moon seems to have all her henshins available to her at one time in the musicals). I found it strange that she said "Moon Eternal, Make Up" because in the later Kaguya Shima Densetsu myu she uses the phrase "Silver Crystal Eternal Power, Make Up" to become Eternal Moon (similar to how she uses "Silver Moon Crystal Power Make Up" to become Eternal Moon in the manga), so I guess I thought that was the phrase they used in the musicals. Anyway, she comes out as Eternal Moon and after some talk, they introduce "La Soldier" and they sing that as the finale. Then they say goodbye to everyone and walk out.

All in all, this was a cool event, and since it was never officially released, it is quite a rare clip. My thanks go out to whatever fan filmed this!
