Song of the Week
6/24/10 - "Natsu wo Shimashou Vacation"![]()
Welcome back to this site's weekly feature, Song of the Week! This week, since I am getting a much-deserved break after 8 days straight of working (from the 16th to today) and going camping with my parents this weekend, I thought, what better song than a summer vacation song? So this week's song is "Natsu wo Shimashou Vacation" (Let's Have a Summer Vacation), from Gaiden - Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen, the very first musical. It also appeared on the Best Songs Collection CD.
This song is a fun little group song where Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, Minako, and Miss Haruna sing about having a fun summer vacation. The context is that the girls are shopping for swimsuits and Miss Haruna drops by and invites them to go abroad with her. Toward the end, Rei notices Miss Haruna is acting a little weird and after the song, she tries to convince the others of this, but they just call her mean. (Miss Haruna does end up being a youma though so Rei was right).
I like this song because it's upbeat and catchy. The girls' costumes are not too great though, but you can hear me harp about that enough in my review of Gaiden, so I won't go into that here. It's interesting to see Miss Haruna, since as far as I know this is the only time she appears in the myus. It's also nice to have a fun upbeat song after the threatening opening and before the serious battle that follows soon after. Interestingly, this song was replaced in Gaiden - Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen (Kaiteiban), the revision of the first musical which was never released on video, with a song called "Fuyu wa Nantatte" (roughly "Winter is Most of All"); this is probably because the Kaiteiban was put on in late December 1993 and early January 1994.
Well, I better go to bed soon so I can pack tomorrow since I forgot today. *sweatdrop* Tune in next Thursday to see the next Song of the Week!
