Song of the Week
7/15/10 - "Junketsu no Narushizumu"

Mori Hiroko singing one of Loof Mellow's solos in 'Junketsu no Narcism'

Song of the Week is back, though it's late (I'm actually writing this on Friday). This week, the featured song is "Junketsu no Narushizumu" (usually romanized as "Junketsu no Narcism," meaning "Pure Narcissism"), the battle song for the Shin Kaguya myus of 2004 and 2005 and a song I've been planning to dub for a while.

This song is sung by all the Senshi as well as by Loof Merrow, who was introduced to the senshi earlier as a pirate but reveals herself in this sequence to be the last princess of Artuka, an ancient kingdom of which Kaguya Island, where the myus this song is in take place, is the only remnant. She shows up to help the Senshi defeat Dark Plasman, a sort of personification of the comet Coatl that tried to destroy Artuka 5,000 years ago, and the ensuing battle takes place in this song sequence.

Now, I will say that I really like this song, particularly the Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) -MARINAMOON FINAL- (usually just called Marinamoon Final for short) version, in which I think Marina-chan sings a little better. But this song takes the place of "LINK," the battle song for the original Kaguya myus and one of my favorite SeraMyu songs of all time, so I'm a little annoyed by that. But I guess that's pretty petty.

The music is good for this song, very battle-song-like. The dance moves for it are fairly complex as well, mainly because a battle is going on and also probably because there is a set with stairs involved, which changes up the movement scheme. I think they redid the orchestration for the Kaiteiban version, though, because it sounds more fast-paced than the original version. The Kaiteiban also differs in that Moon's and Loof Mellow's solos are in reverse order in the first verse. Otherwise, they're basically the same. I'm not sure which Loof Mellow's voice I like better for this song; both Aizawa Maki (original) and Mori Hiroko (Kaiteiban) play Loof Mellow well and have great voices. I would've liked to hear Ono Hikari (Loof Mellow in the original Kaguya myus) sing this song sometime, but then again Loof Mellow and her group weren't focused on as much in the original Kaguya myus. Also, the CD version has Marina-chan singing all Loof Mellow's parts anyway, so if you've only heard the CD version, definitely check out the musical version.

I apologize for the short feature this week. It's late and I'm tired. Tune in next Thursday to see the next Song of the Week!
